I have just finished reading Lewis Hyde's 'The Gift'. Patience is required for the heavy theory based first few chapters, but persevering with it will be worth it to discover his ideas on gift exchange and the role of the 'artist' in the community. Makes a refreshing change from the classic J.Berger type art reference books, and although first released more than twenty years ago Pentagram have designed its re-issue cover!
